Notes One of three schemes prepared by the Shropshire Union Railways and Canal Company for which Acts were obtained in 1846, mainly involving the conversion of parts of their canal system into railways.  This line from Newtown to Crewe was not subsequently built.  This plan has been extensively annotated with land ownerships and engineering detail, including various proposed amendments to the route of the authorised railwa y.  It gives good detail of the existing canal installations.  Only a small extract of the plan is shown here, covering the line through Welshpool.
